Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
Today is Monday August 6, 2012.
For those of you who have not heard of the sink hole just off the Erie Canal just outside of Albion, the canal has been de-watered from Medina to Holley so repairs can be made.
This de-watering also affects Glenwood Lake and Lake Alice.
With that in mind the inland waters of Orleans County, with the exception of Lake Alice are showing slow fishing to this point.
Lake Alice at the Waterport Bridge is experiencing good Bluegill fishing during the day and good Crappie fishing late evening and at night.
On Lake Ontario fishing continues to be excellent.
Brown trout fishing in 50 to 65 feet of water has produced some Brown trout in the low to mid teen range.
Yesterday a charter fished 60 to 80 feet of water and produced a good catch of Brown Trout, some Steelhead/Rainbow trout and Chinook salmon.
Others are fishing from the 26 to the 31 line and producing great catches of a mixed bag of fish, including some Chinooks in the 30 pound class.
Riggers set at 50 to 100 feet down and dipsys back 180 to 220 feet along with 300 to 500 foot copper rigs are doing well.
The best patterns seem to be the green patterns (42 second, green nukes and gold 42 second spoons in the regular and mag sizes, and flashers in the green or purple patterns.
The first few days of the Orleans County Rotary Derby jumped off to a great start with some good size fish on the leader board already.
The derby runs thru August 19th so there is still plenty of time to enter.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
