Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Monday September 3, 2012.
Today signals the end of the last big lake derby's and the beginning of the slow down of Lake Ontario fishing for the year.
It also signals the beginning of the tributary fishing for trout and salmon in a couple of weeks.
As a matter of fact I have already had a report of a Chinook caught in the Oak.
On Lake Ontario the salmon are moving in closer, getting ready for that spawning run.
Mature salmon are being taken in 100 feet of water or less with riggers 60 to 100 feet down and dispys back 180 to 200 feet.
Flashers in white with either green or black dots and a variety of flies seem to be taking more fish than any other pattern right now.
Out on the 30 to 35 lines a good mixed bag of Chinooks and Steelhead/Rainbow trout are being taken.
On the inland waters of Orleans County, Northern Pike and Bass seem to be just about everywhere.
Bluegill and Crappie fishing has slowed except for the Oak between the bridges and the point around structure but early morning and late evening are producing the best.
There are even reports of bass being caught on Lake Ontario trolling close to shore West of Route 63.
The summer season may be winding down but there is still plenty of time to take the kids fishing and help them enjoy the great outdoors.
Lets make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
