Oak Orchard

Orleans County Tourism
October 4, 2012
Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Sunday, September 30, 2012.
Even though the water levels in our tributaries in
Orleans County is slightly low, Chinook salmon are starting to increase in numbers heading towards their spawning grounds.
On Johnson Creek Chinooks are all the way to the Lyndonville Dam but the greatest concentration is still between the lake and the Route 18 bridge at Kuckville.
Some trout have also been taken in that same stretch of water but not in any great numbers yet.
On Oak Orchard River Chinook salmon numbers are increasing daily all the way to the dam and the action around the piers continues to increase.
Also fishermen in smaller boats seem to be doing well trolling around the break wall.
Perch fishing on the Oak is picking up but mainly by fishermen from boats drifting through the area around the Orleans County Marine Park.
People fishing for either Salmon or Perch are also reporting that they are seeing a fair number of Northern pike being caught.
On Lake Alice the numbers of both Bluegill and Crappie is on the increase in both numbers and size especially around the Waterport Bridge to Otter Creek area.
The stretch of the Oak from the North end of Lake Alice to and including Glenwood Lake is still the hot spot for Smallmouth Bass.
The DEC is asking for your help in collecting Chinook salmon snouts for their study of their salmon stocking program.
If you can help by saving the snout and bagging it along with some information on where the fish was caught and the approximate weight and length of the fish, there is a freezer on the front porch of Orleans Outdoor which you can deposit the snouts in.
Lastly please remember that the Archer's Club catch and release derby will be held from October 17 to 19 this year.
Great fishing, food and company is all available for the entry price.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
