Oak Orchard

Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Monday October 8, 2012.
The cooler weather and rain of the past week has really spurred the Salmon fishery on all of the tributaries that feed Lake Ontario in Orleans County.
On Oak Orchard River great catches of Chinook salmon are being taken from the jetties at the point all the way to the Waterport Dam.
Even though water levels are still slightly low on the smaller tributaries ( Johnson, Marsh and Sandy Creeks) good numbers of Chinook salmon are still being taken..
Steelhead/Rainbow and Brown trout are beginning to run up all of our tributaries and the runs of these fish should continue to increase in the next few weeks.
To date we have not seen the runs of Atlantic salmon that we saw last year but the season is still young.
There are still people fishing from small boats around the mouth of the Oak and also from the jetties that are producing good numbers of fish.
On Lake Alice by the Waterport Bridge good numbers of both Bluegill and Crappie are still being taken.
Please don't forget the Chinook salmon snout collection for the DEC for all Chinooks with an adipose fin clip.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
