Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday March 20, 2013.
Welcome to the first day of spring, or at least that's what the calendar says.
Right now it's a balmy 26 degrees out and there's snow in the forecast.
Somehow Mother Nature hasn't got the memo yet about it being spring.
The forecast for the rest of the week and into next week is temperatures above freezing during the day and then below freezing each night.
With that being said, most of the ice on our tributaries is gone as well as the ice on the smaller lakes within Orleans County.
Water flows on our tributaries are at a normal or slightly below normal level with visibility anywhere from clear to slightly stained conditions.
Both fresh and spawned Steelhead/Rainbow trout seem to be all thru our tributaries along with some Brown trout mixed in.
Most fishermen are using flies, flies tipped with live bait or just live bait.
On Oak Orchard River from the bridges area north to the point Perch are starting to be taken in more steady numbers along with a few Rock bass mainly at the bridges.
We should start seeing more action of those getting boats ready to launch as March winds down and marinas prepare for their opening.
That means that those long days of checking out the new equipment you purchased over the winter has all but come to an end and the time to figure out how it really works is close at hand.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
