Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday June 26, 2013.
Last Saturday the 3rd Annual Glenwood Lake Carp Derby was held.
Over 150 anglers both young and old participated in the event and helped raise over $1,000 for food banks in Medina, Albion and Kendall.
Some familiar names were Gary Ettinger catching the most, 51 and Bob Brown catching the biggest at 6.2 pounds.
In the Youth Division Elexa Taylor age 9 caught a 3.9 pound Carp and Mickey Boccacci age 11 caught 11 Carp.
Although the Carp seemed to smaller than last year, Doug Albone, the event coordinator said that there are any number of reasons for the reduced size.
With the weather finally settling out somewhat the fishing picture on Lake Ontario should be on the upswing over the next week or so.
Schools of bait fish are showing up in the 80 to 150 foot range which means the ever hungry Chinook salmon should not be far behind and in good numbers.
Right now most are reporting more Lake trout than any other species, but Coho and Rainbow/Steelhead trout mixed in along with an occasional Chinook.
The rains of yesterday serve to keep good flows in all of the tributaries within Orleans County which means that all of the warm water species should be active.
Lake Alice is showing an abundance of Bluegill and Crappie as it normally does this time of year.
Both Smallmouth and Largemouth bass are scattered throughout the waters of Orleans County.
Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
