Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday November 13, 2013.
Would you believe a temperature of almost 60 degrees by the end of this week?
2013 has got to go down in the books as one of the most unpredictable weather years.
I guess the old adage holds true, if you don't like the weather in Orleans County wait 5 minutes for the next change.
As changeable as the weather has been, fishing opportunities have remained fairly constant thru the fall season.
There are still some fresh Chinooks entering the system even at this late date.
Brown trout and Rainbow/Steelhead trout fishing is steadily increasing in all of the tributaries within Orleans County.
On Oak Orchard River water flows remain at slightly high levels with slightly stained water clarity.
All species of cold water fish are on the move and catches are at a high level.
The smaller tributaries within Orleans County have slightly lower water levels and more clarity in the water but catches are still good to very good.
Stone flies, Wooly Buggers, Egg Sucking Leeches and egg patterns in black, white, purple, red or chartreuse colors are but a few that have been mentioned for good baits to try.
On or about the 18th of this month the folks operating the Erie Canal will start their dewatering process, which should help maintain water flows in the tributaries within Orleans County.
This could also create a situation where more debris may be in the waterways from the flushing so keep on the lookout.
Also with the colder temperatures right around the corner be mindful of the effects of hypothermia and dress accordingly.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
