Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday November 20, 2013.
With nightly lows dropping below the freezing mark this weekend and into next week, you can expect to find ice along the banks of the tributaries within Orleans County.
With that said, this is a good time to check over your winter gear and review safety procedures for fishing in the colder weather.
With the Erie Canal in the dewatering mode, most tributaries within Orleans County should remain at present levels or slightly higher throughout the next week or so.
Add to that the prediction of snow this weekend and we should have some great conditions.
Hunting season is in full swing so that should reduce the fishing pressure on all of our tributaries.
With the Salmon fishing continuing to wane the fish of both choice and opportunity right now are Brown trout.
We seem to be experiencing the same pattern that we saw with the Salmon and that is a more spread out timeframe when the Browns should be available.
This also means that the Steelhead/Rainbow trout fishing is just starting up with the better runs still in the future.
Water clarity seems to be clear to moderately stained in all the tributaries.
Favorite productive baits run the full gambit from egg patterns in a multitude of colors to wooly buggers and stone flies just to mention a few.
With next week being Thanksgiving week fishing pressure will most likely be lighter as fishermen take time to spend with families and loved ones.
May your Thanksgiving be filled with loving family members, great friends and enough food to cause you to consider a diet between Thanksgiving and the next holiday.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's 2013 Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County ,may everyday be a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
