Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday December 4, 2013.
Looking at the long range forecast, it seems that we have an upcoming period of above average temperatures for the next week or so.
With the Erie Canal just about completely de-watered, levels in all of the tributaries within Orleans County are returning to more normal levels.
The melting of the area wide snow from last week should help to maintain these levels into next week and keep water clarity slightly stained.
With fishing pressure decreasing due to those who also hunt, and the increasing runs of both Brown trout and Steelhead/Rainbow trout, the fishing experience on all of our tributaries should be at the good to very good levels.
Reports from the smaller tributaries within Orleans County have some of the best fishing in the last several years.
The best colors mentioned have been browns and blacks with an occasional white thrown into the mix for good measure.
Unfortunately with the warmer weather the ice that had started to form on Lake Alice is either unsafe or gone, so the hard water fishery will have to wait for some time yet.
On the lower portion of Oak Orchard River Perch fishing is still spotty at best.
It seems too early for cabin fever to set in but as I look at the calendar, the first sports show is just over a month away.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's 2013Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
