December 18, 2013
Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday December 18, 2013.
If you plan to hunt or fish in New York State after December 25th till shortly after the first of 2014 you will need to get your license now.
As of December 26th the licensing system as we know it will cease to function in preparation for the new system to take effect after the 1st of the year.
The down time is necessary so all of the data can be transferred from the old system to the new.
After a period of very cold temperatures and snow every day, we are finally going to get a warming trend for the rest of the week but not a break from the precipitation.
With this warming trend comes the danger of any ice that has formed becoming unsafe yet again.
A mixture of rain and snow are predicted thru the weekend which should bring flows in all of the tributaries back up to a medium to slightly high level.
The smaller tributaries within Orleans County have ice or slush on them except in the faster moving water areas, but they should open up somewhat with the warmer temperatures.
Those who have braved the harsh conditions of the past week and fish Oak Orchard River near the dam area have been rewarded with some decent Steelhead/Rainbow trout fishing.
Brown trout fishing has been marginal closer to the St. Mary's Archers club area.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
