Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report
Today is Wednesday, February 26, 2014.
The warm-up of last week has weakened the ice on the small lakes and tributaries within Orleans County to the point that safety is an issue.
Now that we have again returned to the deep freeze, several days of continued below freezing temperatures should set-up the solid water fishing again.
In the mean time the tributaries show more open water for those who would like to experience the "soft" water fishery.
There is open water on Oak Orchard River from the dam North past the Archer's Club and around the bend.
On Johnson Creek there is open water at the Lyndonville Dam, around the Blood Road area and around the Kuckville Bridge area.
How long these areas will remain open is anyone's guess.
Due to an incident last fall, Brookfield Power is instituting some new regulations and safety structures on their property at the Oak Orchard power generating plant.
Please make yourself aware of the new regulations and follow them lest you get asked to leave the property and cause Brookfield to deny access to everyone.
Speaking of the area around the power generating plant and North past the Archer's club, besides an increase of the number of hook-ups for both Steelhead/Rainbow trout and Brown trout, some Walleye have been taken recently using mainly white jigs.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's 2013 Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
