Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday March 26, 2014.
Someday, hopefully soon, we will be able to welcome spring like weather but not quite yet.
Although we seem to be rid of those single digit temperatures, we are still experiencing nighttime temperatures close to or below freezing.
The warmer days, above freezing temperatures, are slowly freeing our tributaries of ice and offering more open waters.
On the Oak from the dam to Lake Ontario one can find open water and some very good Steelhead/Rainbow trout fishing.
Water levels are medium to medium high and water clarity is offering visibility of 1 to 2 feet.
On Johnson Creek fishing is spotty with much more open water in the upper reaches.
Marsh Creek is still pretty well iced over.
Sandy Creek has open water but I have not had any fishing reports from there.
On all of the tributaries, the best fishing is in the deep pools that always tend to hold fish.
As the ice clears those attempting to cast from the piers and shoreline should start picking up some Brown trout.
Just a reminder that on April 5th at 8 AM we will be assembling the pens for the pen rearing project.
This project helps insure the return of both Steelhead and Chinook salmon to our area.
The pens are assembled and kept at Lake Breeze Marina, so why not stop by on April 5th and lend a hand.
Also for those who may not have heard, the DEC now has a new licensing system and new licensing structure.
There are many reductions in license fees both for resident and non-resident licenses along with an annual fishing license that runs for 1 year from the date of purchase.
For more information see your licensing agent or go to the DEC website.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
