Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday April 16, 2014.
Just when you thought it was safe to put the winter clothes away, Mother Nature lets us know again who is in charge.
The cold snap of yesterday and today accompanied by rain, sleet and snow sure set things back a bit.
With that being said, it looks like we will be experiencing a slow warming trend over the next week or so which should really get the entire fishery in high gear.
Right now on Lake Ontario the near shore fishery for both Brown trout and Steelhead/Rainbow trout is very active.
On the tributaries a very broad variety of fishing, both warm and cold water species, is available.
Please remember that Bass, Pike and Walleye season are closed right now.
Starting this year the D.E.C. will be stocking Walleye in Lake Alice and will do so for the next 5 years.
At the end of the 5 years they will evaluate the program to see if it should continue.
Yesterday the D.E.C. delivered both Steelhead/rainbow trout and Chinook salmon that are held in the pens for the pen rearing project.
These fish need to be fed four times a day for the next 3 weeks.
Please stop in at Ernst's Lake Breeze Marina or call them at 682-3995 to sign up for times to help feed our future fishery.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing town USA and the rest of Orleans County, let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
