Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday April 30, 2014.
Rain for the rest of this week should keep flows in the tributaries within Orleans County at above normal levels and water clarity at slightly stained to moderately stained conditions.
It should also keep both steelhead/Rainbow trout and Brown trout moving in those tributaries and trigger some improved Bullhead fishing.
Sucker catches are increasing as are Bass but remember that Bass season opens the 3rd Saturday in June so now is catch and immediately release.
Perch fishing in the Oak is still spotty but Northern Pike and Walleye are on the upswing, but their season doesn't open until this Saturday, May 3rd.
On Lake Alice both Bluegill and Crappie catches are slowly increasing and should improve with warmer weather predicted for next week.
Fishing on Lake Ontario is being reported as great to superb with catches of all the cold water species being taken.
Again the rain of this week should keep stained water around the mouths of the tributaries providing some great near shore fishing from both boat and shore fishermen.
Friday, May 2nd, is the first day of the Spring LOC Derby and with the quantity and quality of fish being taken from our area, we should see some people on the LOC Leader Board from our area.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans
