Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday May 14, 2014.
First congratulations to all of the winners in the Spring LOC Derby.
From the looks of the leader board there were some very impressive catches.
The warmer weather of the past several days has helped to bring tributaries within Orleans County into more seasonal temperatures.
On Lake Ontario the near shore temperature is 42.5 with fog along the shoreline, Oak Orchard River at the Point is 57.9, Oak Orchard River at the bridges is 59.8, Johnson Creek at Kuckville is 65.3, Lake Alice at Waterport is 69.7 and the Erie Canal is 64.5.
But wait, cooler temperatures for the rest of the week and rain will help to hold that water temperatures right where they are.
You can also expect higher water levels in the tributaries and greater stained water.
Fishing on Lake Ontario has been above average when the wind allows boats to be on the water.
Good catches of a mixed bag of the cold water species are being taken with Brown trout still being the predominant fish of the mix.
Most of the fishing is taking place close to shore but some are starting to work out to the 80 foot level.
With the rain predicted for the week, good stained water plumes should remain around the tributary discharges within Orleans County.
Perch fishing on the Oak has been exceptional at times and then less than stellar at other times.
Bass fishing has been very good on the majority of our inland waterways but again Bass season doesn't open until the 3rd Saturday in June so it is still catch and immediately release.
All of the other warm water species are beginning to show better catch rates as our waters within Orleans County start to stabilize.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Networks Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
