Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday July 3, 2014.
Last Saturday was the Glenwood Lake Carp Derby which was once more a great success.
Profits are used to support our local food banks, which makes the event even more successful.
Today is the start of the Erie Canal Derby which runs to July 13th.
This offers a great opportunity to take the kids fishing along the Erie Canal have a chance to win some great cash and prizes including a boat and motor.
The warm weather of the past few days has really warmed up water temperatures both on Lake Ontario and also the inland waters of Orleans County.
A chance of showers tomorrow will give way to slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity making for a great holiday weekend.
The cold water of the past weeks has made Lake trout as the most caught species followed by Brown trout, but now with water temperatures on the way up, Salmon and Steelhead/Rainbow trout will become more prevalent in the catches.
Don't be afraid to venture off shore to look for a good mixed bag of fish.
Don't forget that the summer LOC Derby runs thru July 27th so there is still plenty of time to get on the leader board.
On Oak Orchard River catches of Bass, Northern pike, Perch and Carp are being reported with Perch catches being hit and miss.
The 4th of July weekend is a time for celebration of the birth of our great country, but it's also a time to reflect on what makes this country great.
This weekend is a great time to take children into the great outdoors and help them to see beyond the electronics of today to all that nature has to offer.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town UISA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
