Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday July 9, 2014.
Just a reminder that the Erie Canal Derby runs thru this Sunday July 13th and the Summer LOC Derby runs thru July 27th.
Fishing is finally picking up not only on Lake Ontario but on all the waters within Orleans County.
On the Erie Canal fair to good catches of all the warm water species are being reported.
On Lake Alice fair catches of Bluegills and Crappie are being taken for those who really work at it.
Early morning and late evening seem to be the most productive times.
Otter Creek which feeds Lake Alice is giving up some good size Channel catfish.
Oak Orchard River is producing fair to good catches of Northern pike, Bass and Carp but Perch catches are still spotty.
Lake Ontario fishing has finally entered a transition period where catches of Brown trout, Chinook salmon and Steelhead/Rainbow trout are becoming the majority of what makes up the catches.
Chinook sizes are quickly approaching the 30 pound range.
Bait pods seem to be tightening up and fish can be seen diving on the bait on you fish finders.
As the inside water warms up the best fishing is taking place in the 230 to 300 foot range fishing 50 to 90 feet down.
All lure combinations are working and the most mentioned color seems to be Green.
This Saturday, July 12th, is the second leg of the King of the Oak Series so why not bring your boat to the "Oak" and join the fun.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
