Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday July 23, 2014.
Weather conditions look favorable for some great fishing thru mid next week and beyond.
The possibility for a passing thunder storm exists for today and Sunday but the rest of the time should be great fishing conditions.
On the waters of Lake Ontario off Orleans County Chinook salmon catches are on the rise as are Steelhead/Rainbow trout catches.
Most fishing is taking place higher in the water column than usual for this time of year.
The best fishing seems to be taking place from the 27 line out to about the 30 line.
For quite some time the bite was strictly on spoons but now other lures are starting to become active, Cut bait and flasher fly combinations.
Riggers, divers, lead lines and copper rigs are all taking fish.
Some old color patterns are becoming active again, 42 second and black magic patterns are the 2 most mentioned.
On Oak Orchard River the bite still seems to be Northern pike, Bass, and Carp with panfish along the shoreline offering great fun for the young and young at heart.
On Lake Alice Bass still seem to be providing most of the action with Bluegill and Crappie slowly on the upswing.
The Erie Canal continues to offer a broad variety of species for the taking all along the canal.
The dredging of Oak Orchard Harbor will be delayed due to some problems on harbors to our east.
The new dates are starting August 7th thru approximately August 17th.
The Summer LOC derby will wrap up this Sunday July 27th.
This Saturday, July 26th, is the Drew's Crew Fishing for a cure for juvenile diabetes derby.
Why not come out and help support this very worthwhile derby whiling enjoying some of our great fishery.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
