Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday July 30, 2014.
As if we haven't had enough rain over the past week, the forecast well into next week shows the chance of rain every 2nd or 3rd day.
This means that most of the tributaries within Orleans County, including the waters of the Erie Canal will be flowing at above normal levels with medium to highly stained water.
On Lake Ontario water temperatures remain on the cool side with 44 degree water found 50 to 60 feet down.
This causes the band of workable water to be in that top 50 to 60 feet where you will find most of the bait and target fish.
The winds have moved bait and fish anywhere from the 26 line out to the 30 line, depending on wind strength and direction.
As a result most boats are setting up when they first start marking bait and then trolling north until they find the action they are looking for.
It seems like the fishing is slightly better west of the port.
Spoons still seem to be getting more of the action than other lure types.
Riggers, divers and lead lines seem to be the productive set-ups right now with limited action on the copper rigs.
Don't forget that this Saturday, August 2nd, is the opening day of the Orleans Rotary Club Derby.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
