Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday September 24, 2014.
This is that glorious time of year when near shore fishing is good to very good and fishing the tributaries is on the upswing.
Boats working the shoreline, especially around the discharges of the tributaries into the lake, are doing very well on most of the cold water species.
At the same time those cold water species are starting to make their migration to their spawning grounds in the tributaries within Orleans County.
Fishermen are reporting catches of Chinooks, Brown Trout and some Steelhead/Rainbow trout in the tributaries already.
The removal of the small bridge across Oak Orchard River at the bridges area has created two new fishing access areas at a prime location where fish tend to stage on their journey to the dam area.
Tributary water temperatures are still on the high side but with night time temperatures dropping those water temperatures should start improving very quickly.
As you may or may not know, Brookfield Power Company has placed some new regulations on those who utilize their property for fishing.
There is a post on the www.orleanscountyfishing.com website giving a brief overview of these changes including an e-mail address to send Brookfield Power Company your concerns or suggestions on the regulations.
One of the main routes to the west side of the fly fishing area on Oak Orchard River is across the Waterport Bridge.
That bridge is under construction and is slated for completion in late October or early November this year.
Please plan on using one of the alternate routes until then.
There have been some reports of catches of both Bluegill and Crappie on Lake Alice but the word is that they are smaller than their normal size.
Perch fishing is again up and down at the Point depending on wind direction and temperature.
Bass fishing on all of the tributaries and inland waters within Orleans County is still very active.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's 2013 Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County
