Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday October 15, 2014.
In the movie "Field of Dreams" there is a reoccurring line "Build it and they will come".
I'm not sure what we've built but the salmon are again returning to our tributaries within Orleans County in fantastic numbers.
This, even though our water flows are on the low side with almost clear water clarity.
The best return for right now seems to be Oak Orchard River but Johnson, Marsh and Sandy creeks Chinook numbers are on the rise.
The numbers of Brown trout in our tributaries is also on the rise with average to slightly above average numbers being reported.
Today, tomorrow and Friday are the days for the St. Mary's Archer's Club Catch and Release Derby, which draws fishermen and women from local and far away areas.
It's just another great event put on by the members of that club.
This Sunday, October 19th, is the final day for the Erie Canal season.
It won't be long after that date that they begin the de-watering process of the canal which will provide a greater water flow in some of our tributaries, especially Oak Orchard River.
Also on Oak Orchard River there are some reports of decent Perch catches especially from those who have small boats and can work the "hot" areas.
The best action seems to be in about 20 feet of water around the yacht club area.
There are also some better reports of Crappie catches in Lake Alice especially around fallen trees and the Kenyonville Bridge area.
Also on Lake Alice and south along Oak Orchard decent numbers of Bass are still being taken which will most likely continue until the close of Bass season on October 30th.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
