Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday November 12, 2014.
Hope that you enjoyed that blast of warm weather over the past few days because that will be just a memory.
Much colder temperatures are in the forecast for the rest of this week, next week and well beyond.
I guess the fact that this is November should have something to do with it.
With temperatures dropping to and below freezing levels, care should be taken to ensure good footing when utilizing our abundant water resources within Orleans County.
On Oak Orchard River there are still some fresh Chinook salmon showing up but the numbers are drastically on the decrease.
Brown trout are just entering their spawning stage which means that there will be some great Brown trout fishing over the next few weeks.
Steelhead /Rainbow trout are in the mix but not really heavy yet.
The Oak still has fairly good water flow thanks to some Erie Canal water in the system and some rain over the past week.
Marsh, Johnson and Sandy creek flows are on the low side but there are still fish to be found in some of the deeper pools.
A week from today is the closing date for the Erie Canal and then shortly after that they should start the dewatering process, which will help water flows in most of the tributaries within Orleans County.
As we transition into hunting season, tributary fishing pressure should decrease somewhat and allow for less crowded conditions.
Bass fishing on all of the waters within Orleans County is still showing some good numbers.
On Lake Alice Crappie and Bluegill catches are slowly increasing as are the Perch catches on the lower section of the Oak.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the 2013 World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day, right here in Orleans County.
