Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday April 1, 2015.
And so it begins, first one then another and another until all of the docks on Oak Orchard River spring into life.
Even thought the weather is still on its rollercoaster ride fishing on Lake Ontario has begun and none too soon for most.
Brown trout cruise the waters near the months of the tributaries that feed the lake looking of that near shore bait.
It's time to break out the stick baits and flutter spoons, set up the planner boards and check the planner board releases.
As always when working those stained water plumes at tributary discharges, bright colors seem to produce the best action.
It's important to check all of your boating safety equipment before making that first trip out on the lake.
The cold waters of Lake Ontario can be very unforgiving this time of year.
But as Lake Ontario wakes from a long winter's rest the tributaries within Orleans County are still offering some great fishing opportunities.
Both brown trout and steelhead trout still populate our tributaries in good numbers offering those anglers one last great outing until the fall season returns.
Right now all of the tributaries within Orleans County offer some great opportunities and may stay that way well into April.
This is the month that the Erie Canal will begin its re-watering process so that it will be ready for operation around the first part of May.
The smaller lakes within Orleans County still have ice on them but hopefully that will melt off in the next week or two.
Bullhead and Sucker fishing can't be that far off as well as pan fish and all the other species that are available on our waters.
We are now under one month until the first day of the Spring LOC Derby, so why not get your entry in now so you don't miss out on the great cash prizes offered.
Don't be one of those who are forced to say I could have had, if only I would have entered.
For more information please go to www.loc.org.
Also for those of you who would like to book an all inclusive trip on Lake Ontario out of Point Breeze don't forget to take a look at FishingPackages.net.
