Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday July 22, 2015.
According to the long range forecast, we are in for an extended period of dry weather with winds from a westerly direction.
This means that the warmer water should find its way closer to shore which will bring the bait and target fish along with it.
Right now we have Northwest winds that are rather brisk, keeping the boats on shore for now.
With only 4 ½ days left in the Summer LOC Derby, Orleans County has several fish near the top of the leader board in several different categories.
Let's hope that they hold their positions until Sunday afternoon.
Fishing is steadily picking up with fish moving into the 100 to 200 feet of water range.
With all of the wind shifts that we have experienced over the past several weeks, fish are very skittish so the downriggers aren't taking that many fish, however the junk lines are doing exceptionally well.
Differing patterns of flasher/flies seem to be out producing spoons right now.
Just a reminder that the Summer LOC Derby will end this Sunday and the awards ceremony will be held in Sodus Point beginning at 4 PM.
This Saturday will be the Drew's Crew derby to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes.
Entry fee is $50.00 with have of the entry fee going to pay out the top 3 places and the other half going to this very worthwhile cause.
This is a biggest 3 fish derby and you must be entered by 7 AM that day.
Why not join in the fun while helping to support this great cause.
Also a reminder that the Orleans County Rotary Derby starts on August 1st and runs through August 16th this year.
On the inland waters of Orleans County, Bass seem to be the most prevalent fish being caught these days.
On Lake Alice Crappie fishing is picking up by both of the bridges.
The Erie Canal is producing some good catfish around the Eagle Harbor Bridge and the wide water area has a good mixed bag of fish including some nice Crappie catches.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, the World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
