Lake Ontario - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today is Wednesday August 19, 2015.
Just when the big lake starts to really set up our arch nemesis, the East wind shows up again to throw everything into turmoil.
Along with the winds, thunder storms are in the forecast for at least two days out of the next seven.
Sometimes I think that the odds are better at winning the lottery than getting an accurate long range forecast.
Even with all of the weather changes, fishing has been slowly improving.
The biggest challenge seems to be which way did the fish move, in or out, and how far did they go.
Catches are now consisting of a good mixed bag of both Steelhead and Chinooks with an occasional Coho or Atlantic salmon thrown into the mix.
Over the past several days spoon patterns seem to be your best bet with a good mixture of both color and size being active.
On the inland waters of Orleans County Bass and Northern pike seem to head the list of fish species being caught.
On Oak Orchard River both of these species are being caught over just about the entire stretch of the lower portion, from the mouth to the dam.
On Lake Alice Bluegills are being caught from the Waterport Bridge, some Perch from the Kenyonville Bridge and Bass over the entire area.
The Erie Canal still serves as a great source for a mixed bag of fish and a great place to spend a lazy afternoon or early evening.
Two great derbies start at the end of this week, the Fall LOC Derby and the Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey.
The Fall Loc Derby runs from August 21st to September 7th this year, and with $900.00 in daily prizes and a $25,000.00 Grand Prize it's a must on your fishing calendar.
The Greater Niagara Fish Odyssey runs from August 22nd to August 30th.
Species categories for the adults include salmon, smallmouth bass, walleye, carp, lake trout and brown/rainbow trout. For the kids 15 years and under, categories will be salmon, trout, bass, walleye, carp and panfish.
It's a great time of year to get out in the great outdoors and enjoy all of the great fishing that's yours to enjoy.
From Point Breeze on Lake Ontario, The World Fishing Network's Ultimate Fishing Town USA and the rest of Orleans County, Let's make everyday a great fishing day right here in Orleans County.
