Long Island - Saltwater Fishing Report
Long Island Letting Loose 5/5/05
Just get out and fish! Things have broken loose!
The western bays on the North and South Shores are full of Bass. Marc Zanelli bought a Tarpon Tamer fly line keeper from me, and reported tons of schoolie bass in Hempstead Harbor.
Louis Catalano took a 30 inch bass, on a popper tuesday in a gale. I guided him on McMuray's "One More Cast" in Jamaica bay. There are plenty of Bass, some Weaks and a few blues.
Jime Del Grosso reports slow going in the Hamptons. There are fish around but the bass are moving north and not the ones that will set up in Montauk for the season.
Captain Todd Calitri reports hot action in the Florida Keys. His clients have had Tarpon, Permit, Mahi and various reef fish. Todd will return as the head fly fishing guide at Alaska Sportmans Lodge in June.
I will be spending June chasing Bass on the East end and in the Huntington area. I have a few dates open.
The Long Island Bassmasters held it's first freshwater Bass tournaments on Lake Lilinona, Conn., on May 2 Tim Carini took first and Chris Villano had lunker. Check out the club on Bassinusa.com
