Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report
All streams across the lakeshore are pretty much open and flowing. Right now, North and South Sandy are looking real good. North Sandy is open all the way to Rt. 3. I saw fish moving throughout the day there. A quick look off the bridge in Ellisburg and I could see one steelhead tailing just off the slate.
The Oak is still loaded with fish and according to Ron from Orleans Outdoors the water is perfect, despite what the whiners and pokers say. Bill Hilts Jr. told me that Eighteen Mile Creek has a lot of browns and some steelhead, with a good flow there also. The Oswego River continues to produce browns in the harbor and some steelhead up by the dam. The salmon river is running at 700cfs and there are fish scattered mainly through the middle section. I hear good reports from the Sportsman Hole. Try pink and white egg sacs.
The big question is......Where do I catch a steelhead today. It's great to have options. This weather is unbelievable. As I am writing this, it is raining and the air temp is 40. There is a good snow pack on the hill, but with this weather it appears it is going to be an early Spring.
Good Luck,
Troy
