Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report
April 12, 2007 another cold wet wintery day with high winds, snow, freezing rain and rain. Do I have you pumped up for a fishing trip yet? I was scheduled to fish today and as I was hitching up the boat, the guys called at 5 AM and asked if they could rebook. I had an elderly person and we decided not to beat ourselves up. So here I am working on a fishing report and the magazine. I have a honey-do list a mile long, so I will widdle away on that today.
Despite lousy weather I have been entertianing some great guests, catching some fish, enjoying the peace and quiet on the river (No Boats) and talking about warm days ahead.
Sunday I took Tara and Pete for a 1/2 day Easter float trip. We were met with the usual snow squalls and wind. Temps were below freezing and we managed to tie into one fish for the morning. It was cold and wet to say the least and we wrapped it up about 11 AM. They are coming back on a warmer day.

Monday and Tuesday I hooked up with Capt Tom Burke, (Cold steel) to fish a crew from Maine that has been with us for years.
Both boats got into fish both days with Greg getting the two largest for the trip. Most of the fish came on plugs as the boys like to enjoy a drink or 20 while waiting for a bite!! (Guys you left one of your many flasks on the boat).

A big guy with a big fish. Yes it is bleeding. It swallowed a 35 Orange & Gold Luhr Jensen Hot Shot and had to be sent to the smokehouse.
Ted with a true Fresh spring run steelhead. This was a hard bodied sow that took us for a ride. She looks like an November fish! (released)

David and Jim moved their normal day in March to mid April this year, so they could cash in on some warmer weather. Well..... It was the nicest day of the week with temps finally hitting 40 and a little sun in the morning.
Jim was first to land one on a white egg fished in the slow water.
David followed behind with a twin to Jim's, both spawned out hens.
Another great crew to fish with and Dave makes a killer sandwich.
Right back at it again tomorrow. Look for the water to climb back up in the creeks and I would expect a rise in run-off on the big rivers as well. There is still a lot of snow on tug hill.
Open Dates
May 2 opened up for the river.
I also have May 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, 31 on the lake.
Plenty of days open in June as well. The fishing will be fantastic and it might be warm by then??
