Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report
I can't stress enough how good the fishing is right now.........
It just doesn't get much better. Even with cold fronts and strong varying winds, we continue to punish the fish on Lake O. From Henderson Harbor all the way to Sodus Bay good numbers of fish are being found in 70 to 300 feet of water.
This past Friday, my party landed over 20 fish. When you hear people talk about the good ole days, let me tell you, they are here right now.
King salmon are dominating the catch right now and most of the fish are being caught on pro-troll e-chip flashers and Spin Drs with Atomik flies behind them. Spoons are taking a nice mix of trout and salmon up in the warmer water.
Trolling speeds of 2.2 to 2.5 mph is what they are looking for. Look for the fish to be 50 to 100 feet down. This has been a good salmon season to date and things will keep getting better. There are a lot of fish out there right now just waiting to be caught.

Brain Jr made the trip this summer along with brother Eric and Sr. We had two decent days, landing kings to 25 pounds, despite some windy weather Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

Bass fishing on the Oswego river, above the dams in Oswego and Minetto are providing some really good catches. Fish small jigs tipped with Mister Twister grubs. Slowly bounce the jigs off bottom and work the weedlines. Also try the ares around 4 mile point in Scriba and the the green can just west of Oswego for smallmouth. Worms and crayfish drifted along the bottom are always the top producers there, but many anglers prefer to cast or troll small crankbaits.
There has been some bass and northern pike action on Sandy pond and Lakeview Marsh, especially along the weed lines, although Saturday afternoon when that cold front came throught things shut down for us. Look for conditions there to improve when the warm weather returns later this week. Cast spinnerbaits, rubberworms, small crankbaits and of course don’t forget the jitterbugs and buzzbaits for some hot top water action.
Oneida Lake walleye fishing is kind of slow right now. You can always catch pickerel, bass, catfish and perch. If you want walleye try the deeper water, troll purple and black Hot-n-Tots and jr. thundersticks at a depth of 25-38 ft. or slowly bounce jigs tipped with a worm off the bottom.
Now is a great time to schedule a fishing trip.. The kids are out of school, the fishing is excellent and area captains are available for lake charters. Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.
