New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Salmon River, Lake Ontario Fishing Report

The 2007 lake season will be winding down soon as Chinook and Coho salmon begin to enter the rivers and streams that have water.

The past week was a trying one for anglers in Oswego with heavy winds and ever changing conditions. We had some fair catches in close and some good catches out over 300 FOW with cohos steelhead and 2 yr old salmon. There will be a huge run of salmon coming into the Oswego river mouth sooner or later. We just need some rain.

There are plenty of fish in front of the big salmon river and the estuary is loaded. Fishing remains real good in 10 to 50 FOW there and should continue for the next few weeks.

The Douglaston Salmon Run has reported the fishing has picked up with a few runs of Kings and Cohos in the lower end of the river. All we need is rain.

Guides working the night bite at the mouth of the salmon river are catching fish on glow spoons and bottom fishing with floating egg sacs.

The Oswego river has been running between 800- 1,000cfs and is producing a variety a fish. There is an unusual number of rainbow trout for this time of year. Use flies, egg sacs, worms and floating stickbaits. There continues to be a slow increase in the number of salmon with the area past the powerhouse seeing some action.

Bass fishing remains good throughout the river with crabs and worms being the best bait. Again, we need rain.
