New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
November 29, 2007
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Mother nature is shining on area steelhead fisherman as all area streams are open and dime bright fish are scattered from top to bottom.

Try white, pink, chartreuse and blue egg sacs and work the pools from top to bottom, concentrating on the heads and the tails. There still isn't alot of fish in the bellies of the pools. Think Fast Water!!

The fish are on the move so don’t be afraid to move around. The salmon river is running around 950 cfs with run-off which is great water.

Driftboats are pounding fish, backtrolling Luhr Jensen Hot Shots in Copper and Gold.

Here are some pics from the last few days.

Eric was up again for his annual November trip. We fished the river one day and banged a few, but decided to hit a trib on day two and it was the right move. We hit fish in just about every hole we fished. water was perfect and we saw one other angler all day!!

Chuck and Frank spent two days on the river and were into good numbers of fresh fish, including several browns both days. What a tremendous two days of fishing. These guys are spoiled for life.

On the Oswego River. Flows are pushing 10,000 cfs and on the rise. Fishright edges, near the dam and at lock 7.

Pink and chartreuse egg sacs under floats are producing some nice steelhead and a few browns.

Please use extreme caution when fishing the river as flows are very high.

Oneida lake walleye fishing is still very good with most of the fish coming from the eastern end of the lake. The lure of choice is the sonar type blade bait especially the Lazer Blade Bass Pro Shops gold holographic in 1/2 oz. The upper South bay is loaded with shad, yearling yellow perch and of course walleye.

There is still plenty of good fishing open water fishing and pressure is very light. Don’t put that rod away yet.
