Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The ice fishing season throughout the listening area is finally in full swing. Chaumont Bay Sandy Pond and Black Lake continues to produce great catches.
Anglers are catching crappies and perch using spikes, minnows and wax worms with teardrop and caty jigs. There is safe ice in many spots but some are still not safe. As always check the ice before you venture out.
The water level on the Oswego is over 19,000cfs and ice and slush are a problem on the colder days. This will fish good when the water does drop.
The fishing remains fantastic on the salmon river with fish being caught from top to bottom. Blue and white egg sacs under a float or on the bottom are producing well.

If you have not already figured it out as of right now all of our River are
at flood. The question is when will the rivers returned to a fishable flow.
The way the weather forecast is looking, I suspect the Oak Orchard River is
gone be the first River to come into fishable conditions. You should be
able to fish the Oak by now, but the water flow is going to be high and muddy. Use your favorite high water flies and egg sacs.
The Genesee River is no exception this River is also at flood levels and
will most likely stay that way for some time. I suspect it will take
approximately 2 weeks befor the high water works its way through the Genesee
River.
The high water has opened up the smaller area streams. These strains remain
high for now, however the coming cold snap may ice the streams back up
before we have a chance to fish.
