New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
February 22, 2002
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake Ontario Rivers ans Streams

Lake Ontario continues to amaze us with a variety of abnormal weather.

The warm spring like rains have caused all area streams to blow out.

Why this will bring in good numbers of fish, the frigid water temps tend to make them picky. Even though the air temp is in the forties, the water temp drops to just above freezing. as it is nothing but melting snow.

The salmon river is running high about 1000 cfs with the runoff and may rise soon. Fish bright colored egg sacs and worms while the water is stained. Some fish are beginning to spawn so don't be afraid to work a heavy single hooked spinner through the gravel runs.

The river has been real crowded with all the warm weather, but now the higher flows seem to be chasing everyone away.

Good Luck, Troy.

High Adventure Sportfishing is currently taking reservations for Spring, Summer and Fall, Lake and River charters.
