New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
September 29, 2003
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Well I enjoyed a nice weekend off. We had our annual work weekend at our hunting Club in Canton, so I was stacking wood, clearing trails and drinking bourbon. Not necessarily in that order.

I spent Sunday afternoon roaming the creeks and the SR and here is what I saw.

The creeks up north received just enough rain to get the water moving but that is about it. North, South and Little Sandy all have some fish in the extreme lower end, but not much moving up through.

If you wanted to get there first thing in the morning you could do a fish or two, but don't expect a big push until we get more water.

The SR fished good on Sunday with a nice bunch of fish moving through the lower end. Look for those fish to be going through town on Monday.

The mouth continues to produce great catches with the charter boats doing the most damage trolling rapalas just before dawn. There are still a lot of fish in 10 to 40 feet of water.

This rain really saturated the ground so any additional rainfall this week will help to bring levels up. Keep your fingers crossed.

I am swamped with phone calls and e-mails this time of year. Please forgive me if I don't get back to everyone. There just isn't enough time in the day. I will tell you that I do not have any open days until December 10, but I have some real good guides that still have a few days open this Fall. Shelley is stellar at working the books and she will be more than happy to set you up with a quality guide.

The Oswego Harbor was rocking on Sunday. don Rufo from LiL Flipper went 7 for 10 and he said they were all bright fish.

Sounds like the best is yet to come.

Stay Tuned, Troy
