New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Capt. Troy Creasy
March 4, 2004
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Salmon and Oswego River Report

While everyone is all excited about the recent warm up and beautiful flows and conditions. I heard a lot of whining the last four days.

Why aren't they biting, it is so nice out. shouldn't the water be warming up?

So many fail to realize that snow melt is the coldest water of the season. In addition to that, it is different water. Whether it is the PH or alkalinity, ot whatever, it shuts down the fish.

While the SR is running at a great flow of 700 cfs with run off and I am sure fish are entering the river daily. Things need to stabilize and then it will happen.

Similar conditions are prevelant on the Oswego which rose from 5,000 to 6,900 today. What this will do is attract the bait (emerald shiners, sticklebacks, alewifes) into the harbor which will pull in the first good run of fresh silver lake run brown trout.

I caught a few over there already in the past week, but look for a good push real soon.

The creeks are showing signs of breaking open but even when they do it will tough going with the shelf ice. Be Careful!

March is shaping up to be a good month and if we lose some of the snow now, we could avoid major flooding in the Spring. Time will tell.

We still have a four seats left for our Underwater Trolling Seminar this weekend in Oswego. With ten seats left for Stockbridge Mass on the 13th.

High Adventure Sportfishing will also be conducting on the water seminars throughout the summer of 2004.

While certain days will deal with designated topics. This is a great opportunity to get together with fishing buddies and you can tell us what you would like us to teach you!

Never fished lead-core? Then that is what we will fish.

Want to learn how to tune whole herring baits? Then we will cover that.

Cost for the 6 hour on the water seminar, which includes coffee, water and snacks, along some great tackle samples to take home is $150.00/man based on 4 people.

Keep checking back on our Lake Ontario Outdoors website as we will be adding more dates and topics.

Seminars covering dodger and Flies, Cutbait, Fine tuning spoons, genaral riggingand use of the Walker underwater camera. June 11, 18, 25.
