Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Fritz is up this week for two of the many trips he does with me throughout the year. He is Stellar with his fly rod and although it was tough going with fished hard and went 2 for 4!!
We fished big popsicles flies in Black and Blue and Green and Silver. The water was up to 42 degrees and they are really starting to chase. Just about all the fish we fished to struck at our flies. No heavy lead and tiny flies. No swing and sting. Real fly fishing!!! Big stuff on the swing
The best, YES THE BEST......Steelhead fishing of the year will occur in the next 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The waters warm and the fish bite! Think I 'm kidding. I still have May 2, 5, 9, 10, 11. Come on up and find out for yourself.
Look for dropbacks to be holding on the seams and the edges of the fast water. Don't waste your time trowing into the main current. They won't be there.
Worms and eggs will be the ticket this weekend as the water still has some good color in it.
The Oswego River is producing some nice catches of brown trout as well as a few very large Spring King Salmon. I know of several weighing in between 15 and 17 pounds. That is huge for this time of year and what a nice bonus to find when you are really only looking for 3 to 5 pound trout.
The lakeshore is fishing well as anglers are finding brown trout trolling along the shore in 6-8 ft. of water, primarily at the mouths of the tributaries. Stickbaits and small spoons in black and silver are working the best. Troll slow and concentrate your efforts in and around the warmest water.
