New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Salmon River Fishing Report

Salmon River Fishing Report

By: Troy Creasy

I was out of town for a few days at a show, (See link on Triple S Show) but came back to hammer it out on a cold weekend. I met Dave and Ray Saturday morning and we kicked the boat off at Altmar. We started in the Schoolhouse with plugs but no luck. We pulled over and did some casting for a few hours. We hooked five fish and landed one small one. We watched a few other boats do about the same. We decided to cover some water and worked our way downstream. We never took another bite! With the flow at 1800 plus run-off it was tough going. Guess I should have stayed up river. I talked to some other guides that stayed in the school and they poked at them throughout the day. Better luck on sunday.

My guys didn't want to start early cause it was cold. "It is January". We waited for the slush to clear and decided to head north. The creeks we fished had some slush but we fished through it and landed a few nice fish in about four hours effort.

The good news is that we are making ice around the clock and the perch fishing on Chaumont Bay is Red Hot! A few more days and there will be some ice on Oneida Lake as well. With the walleye size limit down to 15 inches, look for some good catches.

I will update this report if anything hot and heavy happens, but I have a few shows to do over the next few weeks.

Syracuse NY January 22, 23, 24.

Bloomsburg Pa January 27, 28, 29, 30.

I will also be doing seminars throughout the winter.

Oswego NY March 5

Cabelas Store Hamburg Pa. March 19, 20.

Watch for more details.

Stay Warm, Troy
