New York Fishing Report for Lake Ontario and Salmon River

Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

High Adventure Fishing Report 11/01/06

By: Troy Creasy

**As you may know the web cam has been down. I will be working on it this Friday and hope to have it back online that day.**

If you are a November fisherman, the odds are you are looking for one thing. Big Trout!

Browns & steelhead, are very abundant in all area streams and although we are still dealing with high water, the conditions are improving daily.

I have forgotten what my driftboat looks like. I have spent over a week pounding the streams for salmon and trout. Overall we have been doing pretty well.

On the salmon river, the water flow has been 1800 cfs plus run-off and will continue at that level through at least Monday night. Steelhead and browns are scattered throughout the deeper holes and gravel areas of the river. Driftboats running plugs have been spanking fish on hot shots and rapalas.

The bank anglers having the most success have reported that the key is to cover lots of water because the fish are spread out. Suggested patterns are pink egg sacs, estaz eggs, glo bugs, nymph's and large stoneflies. Work the area around the Schoolhouse, Trestle pool, sportsman pool as well as the town and Ball Park area.

On the Oswego River the water level has beenaround 20,000 cfs and that uis a dangerously high level. My advice is to stay off of the Oswego until the water drops.

As I mentioned the small streams are fishing well with a good mix of steelhead, brown trout and plenty of clean salmon still around.

The winds kind of spoiled everything on Oneida lake over the last week, but conditions are improving there each day.

Hey I took some pictures.

Long time client Gary LA Hineman with a clean 28 pound chinook.

Steve Shapiro cam all the way from Bradenton Florida to do battle with Mr. steelhead.

Chuck took this big king on a chartreuse egg sac.

The first king on my new Sheffield Float rod and center pin reel. Look for an article on Pin fishing in the Winter issue of Lake Ontario Outdoors due out around the Holidays.

Jimmy with first Oak Orchard brown of the season. A big 11 pound hen!

Scott is all smiles with his nice brown trout.

Good cigars, wine, beer, food and a few fish. It doesn't get any better than that.

Carl Runge from St Petersburg Florida with his 1st brown trout. Dad says this fish is going on the wall!! Nice Job!!
