Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Fishing Report 1/24/07
We have had just enough cold air to make some ice ion the lakes and bays to the north.
I would still be very careful when going out on to the ice and check the thickness as you go.
Andy Bliss from Oswego has been making the run to Chaumont Bay about everyday and have been rewarded with some great catches of nice size perch. Small minnows and jigs in 8 to 12 feet of water are working well. Black Lake also has good ice but that lake is about an hour and a half drive from here.
With the cold air rolling in, Look for good ice just about everywhere for the weekend.
On the salmon river steelhead are scattered from top to bottom and the fishing has been fair to good. Cover a lot of water and try downisizing your egg sacs. It seems they like the smaller ones bettter. don’t be afraid to fish wax worms or meal worms undr a float.
The Oswego river is still real high and although it has plenty of fish it was slow this past week. White jigs and pink eggs are working best.
