Salmon River, Lake Ontario & Ice Fishing Report 2/ 23/12

Capt. Troy Creasy
February 23, 2012
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

The weather over the last few days has been outstanding if you are a steelhead fisherman. One day hot one day OK. Lot's and lots of fish but some are beginning to spawn and many have been well educated. You have to work for them now and know what you are doing.
Blue egg sacs, stoneflies, & egg imitations are the ticket. With the lower flows you will find fish about anywhere right now. Just fish the water you like and be patient.
The water level on the Oswego river is a fishable 6, 800 cfs.
Steelhead and brown trout are taking worms, minnows, egg sacs and white bucktail jigs.
Should be a real good March as things are on track for an early spawn and a lot of early dropbacks.
If you want to go I have March 12, 14, 16, 20, 21 & April 9.
See you out there!

Target Species:

steelhead & brown trout
