Salmon River, Oak Orchard Fishing Report

Capt. Troy Creasy
November 30, 2008
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

All area streams remain open and dime bright fish are scattered from top to bottom.Try pink, chartreuse and blue egg sacs and work the pools from top to bottom. The fish are backing into the holes and looing for sfoter water. They are everywhere, so don't be afraid to move around. The salmon river is running around 500 cfs which is good water for boats and bank anglers.

The Oswego is running about 9,000 and the fishing there is great as well.

Lucky Frank & Patty are back again! We had a ton of bites, hooked up with 10 or 12 but only landed a few. The bite was very soft and the weather was very cold. The hot chicken gumbo helped keep us warm.

On Oneida Lake Night casting for walleyes continues to be good along the shore of Oneida Lake. With changeable weather conditions anglers need to use caution. Dutchman's and Lewis Point continue to be active areas. Perch are being taken along the rockpiles with worms and minnows.

There is still plenty of good fishing open water fishing and pressure is very light. Don't put that rod away yet. I am sure it won't be long and we will have some good ice fishing reports.

Western New York fishing report by Jay Peck - www.jaypeckguides.com

It looks like winter is definitely coming early this year. Starting with the Oak Orchard River; Water temperatures remained unseasonably cold, in the mid to upper 30 degree range. This cold water temperature has sent all the Brown trout in to the pools. There is a mix of spawn out Browns, and Browns that have not yet finished their spawning. Both groups of fish are starting to acclimate to the water temperatures and going on the feed. Steelheads are now showing up more consistently in the main pool. Despite all of this the fishing at Oak Orchard River remains slow, but a steady pick.

Sandy Creek has been receiving canal water for a little over one week. Despite the addition water flow from the canal system Sandy Creek water temperatures remained cold and the fishing is still slow. It is now mid November and this is steelhead time for Sandy. Hopefully the fishing on Sandy Creek will eventually turn around. The Genesee River this may be the one bright spot in the fishing for Western New York right now. Water flows on the Genesee River is both clearing and dropping. The way Genesee River is looking right now, we should be back to fishing the Genesee is coming week.
