Salmon River, Sandy Pond, Chaumont Bay, Oneida Lake Fishing Repo

Capt. Troy Creasy
February 3, 2011
Salmon River - Freshwater Fishing Report

Janauary is behind us and thoughts of spring are on everyone's mind except hardcore ice fisherman. They are reporting good catches of perch from Chaumont Bay, Henderson Bay, Sodus Point, Sandy Pond and Black Lake. Sandy Pond is giving up some nice size pike as well. Large shiners and jigs are working best
On Oneida lake Reports of good to excellent walleye and perch catches are coming in from the east at Lewis Point. Most anglers are jigging with Swedish Pimples dressed with a buckeye minnow or jigging a Rapala enhanced with bait. The sonar is also accounting for a few walleyes. Yellow perch are responding to mousies and spikes fished with more finesse than the typical heavy handed jigging for walleyes.
The water level on the Oswego River is a low and ice is a problem on the colder days. Steelhead and brown trout are taking worms, minnows, egg sacs and white bucktail jigs.
The Salmon River is running a very lean 285cfs but there are plenty of fish just waiting to be caught.
It has been on and off for two weeks now. They bite like crazy one day and they are stubborn the next but that is typical winter fishing. Fish egg sacs, 8mm beads and small flies in blue and white.
Remember I always need photos for the Lake Ontario Outdoors photo contest.
Winter time makes for some great pictures so don't forget your camera when you head outdoors.

I am taking a much needed vacation, so first hand reports will be a little light for a week or so.
Spring is right around the corner so if you get an itch to fish, I have
