Carolina Beach Fall Fishing

Buzzard Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Carolina Beach Fall Fishing

Carolina Beach Fall fishing was a lot of fun today had a group from Lexington, N.C. on board, real anglers. These guys could fish all I had to do was catch the bait, give them a little advice on where to cast. We caught a couple of big Black Drum, along with a 22" Red Drum, I did not try to even keep up with the number of small Puppy Drum that we caught they were coming in the boat pretty fast at one time. All the undersized Red Drum were released unharmed to grow some more.

Location of where we fished Bay Creek, and Buzzard Bay which is just to the North of Bald Head Island.

Weather conditions there was no wind until about 9:00 am then we begun to get just a very light north wind. The temperature was comfortable, with a few scattered clouds, made for a pleasant fishing trip.

Bait used were live finger mullet and some cut bait. Cut bait seemed to work a little better on this charter than the live finger mullet.

Rods used were supplied by the "The Reel Outdoors" out of Emerald Isle, N.C. TRO612S66 6′ 6″ 6 to 12 Test line 1/4 -5/8 OZ. lure. These rods are reasonably priced and hold up well under charter boat use. I also am using some spinning rods made by the "Key Largo Rods" these rods are about $150.00 – $180.00 not cheap by any means. SP 1580 Graphite rod seems to have just a slightly heavier tip action, makes for an excellent Red Drum rod. I will probably be buying more of these rods I believe they will last quite a long time.

Reels by Penn Fierce 3000 seem to hold up well for me I do routinely clean and grease the reels. Rinsing them off with water is a must for any saltwater use.

Visiting Bald Head Island, Carolina Beach, Wilmington, Southport, Oak Island, Wrightsville Beach, N.C. give Capt. Mike Dennis a call he will be glad to take you on his backwater fishing adventures. He is running a 20′ Pathfinder Bay boat a real stable fishing platform, powered by a new Yamaha 150 HP SHO outboard which is dependable and fast. Carolina Beach fall fishing has just begun you still have time to go fishing this year!
