NC Inshore Fishing Red Drum Flounder

Capt. Michael Dennis
July 21, 2012
Cape Fear River - Saltwater Fishing Report

NC Inshore fishing for red drum & flounder in the backwaters of the the Cape Fear River has been from good to slow just depending on the thunder storms that have been passing over the southern tip of Brunswick County.I have been fishing almost every day now that is why I have not been posting on a regular basis. The days the weather has been clear with no thunder storms bite has been at the start of the falling tide.Live bait or strip mullet on Carolina rigs with circle hooks have just been the most successful, with jig heads and soft plastic curly tails, catching fish too.Best live bait has been finger mullet, which have been plentiful, small menhaden have been hard to find.It takes a lot of moving around to find the fish, once located the red drum having been hitting hard with a lot of fight, most fish have been from 22" to 27" with quite a few over the slot size 30" fish have common.Flounder have been holding on the sandy flats, and deep channels with live bait catching the most fish.
