Southport - Saltwater Fishing Report

We met Capt. Darnell Greenway and Henry Greenway from Baltimore, MD., along with James Anderson and Chappie Elliott from Windsor Mill, MD. and headed offshore again after more bottomfish. The seas were a little off beat from the forcast, but, the 34' Chris Craft's twin diesels made the trip a very comfortable ride at 19 knots.
When we reached the fishing grounds we were greeted with a very, very strong current that was "jacked up" into the wind. This makes for tough fishing and a "hair pulling" situation to get anchored up in. But, we got "r" done and the guys fished the current perfectly. When you have good and experienced fishermen on board in these conditions it sure makes me look good. I just got them on the fish, they knew how to catch them, so, I can't take all the credit!!!
We ended the day with near and limits of Black Bass, Grey Snappers, Vermillion Snappers, Silver Snappers, Barracuda, Triggerfish, Banded Rudder Fish, Joltheads, Amber Jacks, Grouper, Almaco Jacks, Ringtails and Calico Bass. The high light of the day had to be when Darnell hooked up and boated his very first African Pompano, and a nice one at that!! It was hard to believe we never caught a shark today with all the sharks we caught the day before, but, that's fishin'!!!
If you're ever up in the Baltimore, Maryland area, look up Darnell and book a Striper Trip with him. He fishes with us every year and I've got to get up there and fish with him sometime!! Sounds like a good road trip in the making for me and a couple more friends!!
Target Species:

black bass, triggerfish, mahi, vermillon snapper, silver and grey snapper, grouper, amberjack, African Pompano
