Southport - Saltwater Fishing Report

7-14-12
I had a very special fishing trip today. Capt. Kevin Couick came down with five of his friends and we went botton fishing.
Kevin and I have become great friends over the years. We first met at Captain's School and soon realized we had a lot in common.
Kevin chartered here for a while then moved his Charter operation to the Santee Cooper Lakes in SC.
Be sure to check Kevin's website out, he has a link on my "LINKS" page or just click here www.santeefishhunter.com and go fish with him and he will put you on some big catfish, treat you with respect, and will do everything possible to get you fish, and more!!!
Kevin Couick is from Waxhaw,NC., Jared Sachowitz is from Matthews,NC., Matt Reed is from Indian Trail,NC., Billy and Dyllan Dye are from Monroe,NC and Danny Dye is from Charlotte,NC.
We started off at a place some 40+ miles out that has been holding some huge black bass all year and today we were not dissapointed. It didn't take long to limit out on huge black bass.
A few miles from there, I have some numbers that do good on various bottom fish, so we moved there after we caught all the black bass we could keep, and started catching a mixture of fish like Grey Snappers, Big Eye's, Triggerfish, Silver Snappers, Vermillion Snappers, Calico Bass, Amber Jacks, Almaco Jacks, Rasp's, and Rudder fish.
With a load of fish like this, all that was missing was some Grouper. Another stop a few miles away from here, and we solved that problem as well with six nice keeper Scamp Grouper and a few Strawberry Grouper as well. We caught a lot more Scamp's but they fell an inch or so short of legal size so we had to release these.
It was a hard, long day on the water, but, with great friends and fish to boot, it was worth every minute. I just wish it could have lasted longer!!!!
Got another bottom trip tomorrow. Come on back when you have the time tomorrow evening late, and see how we do!!!
Thanks for everyone's support and may God Bless You All!!!!
Fish On!!!!
