Yeah Right II Refit with Speckled Trout on the side!

Capt. Butch Foster
February 22, 2017
Southport - Saltwater Fishing Report

02-21-2017

We have been extremely busy here at YRC over the past month, with many updates on our Facebook page I haven't sat down to put in a report because most of what we are doing now is part of the refit and getting the Yeah Right II prepared for a safe and wonderful fishing season! Capt. Butch has been doing some freshwater fishing towards the middle of the state and has been having much success in harvesting early Spring Crappies! As for Holly and myself we introduced Tila, our Shih'tzu, to the world of backwater fishing and she has found a that she really enjoys the boat and catching Speckled Trout!

Holly and I found our way last weekend into the tributaries around Southport and found several nice Trout that wanted to bite. With the stiff SW winds we found it nearly impossible to manipulate our baits properly from a stable positions; therefore, we decided that a slow trolling might be best. Holly set out our spread of Betts' Halo Shad and Pro-Cure Mullet scent tipped curly-tails and 50 yards later we had 3 Trout on, 2 of which were landed. A quick circle of the area and Holly was shouting Fish ON again as this time 4 rods were pulling down with a nice Speckled Trout on the other end! It was hard to move away from the wheel for more than a second with the winds, so we were only able to land 2 of these as well and 1 was just shy of the size limit and was released. We made a couple more passes on this area and just as quick as the bite had turned on, it shut off. After anchoring off and fishing the area hard with multiple colors and designs of baits, we moved on.
Not a long wait, we trolled around a couple of Oyster beds and then as we approached a deep drop Holly found herself hooked into a Gator Trout that was really putting up a fight! She adjusted the drag on the IRT 400 series reel and continued to battle until unfortunately the fish pulled the hook just outside of net range and was left to fight another day. With the winds picking up even more in the afternoon the decision was made to consider this a successful morning and we made our way back to the docks.

In other news here at YRC, in our valiant efforts to ensure our customers have a successful and safe fishing trip we are putting the Yeah RIght II through a rigorous refit. She has just completed an entire re-wire and is fitted with the best electrical components by Ancor and Blue Sea Systems on the market today. She was also pulled out of the water just yesterday and will be undergoing a re-power so we can get you to the fishing grounds quicker and with less stress of having a trip potentially cancelled due to mechanical issues. Although they can come up as she is man-made, we do everything within our control to ensure you will have an amazing and memorable fishing adventure with us!

Yeah Right Charters has been asked to be showcased and Captain Butch was at Bass Pro Shops in Concord, NC this past weekend for their Spring Kickoff, and he has come home this week to help me with the engine replacement job; however, he will be back at Bass Pro in Concord again this coming weekend. If the re-fit goes to plan I will be at this event the following 2 weekends and we look forward to seeing you there!

Spring is fast approaching and as the water temps rise the fishing will only get better and as the fishing gets better we will soon be seeing you on the water!!!
