Hot Weather Hot Fishing

Capt. Richard Bennett
July 2, 2015
Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hi Folks,
Yeah, you read it right. Today in 81 degree water we caught 3 nice trout on finger mullet. Good eating tonight. Water temps are very warm and early morning fishing is by far the best. Here's my report:
INSHORE: Flounder, reds and yes trout are biting inshore. Live bait is plentiful in the form of finger mullet and poagies. Best tide has been the falling tide.
NEAR SHORE: Spanish mackerel continue to please. Most fish are hitting clarkspoons on a #1 planer. Tide is not an issue as long as it is moving.
OFFSHORE: Kings and mahi are biting from 10 miles out. A few sails have shown up giving hope for some hot action this July. Cigar minnows, ballyhoo and live bait slow trolled work best.
GULFSTREAM: Bigger mahi (than in closer), some wahoo and blackfin tuna are biting. Some billfish are getting into the act as well.
Cape Fear River: The river is giving up all three of the main fishes: reds, flounder and trout.
UPCOMING: Big holiday weekend coming up. Be careful on the water and OUT of the water.
Until next time…LET'S GO FISHING!!!
