Pre-Ana and Post Ana Report

Capt. Richard Bennett
May 8, 2015
Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hi Folks,

Windy and turbulent seas with rain showers mixed in for variety are the order of this weekend and possibly a little beyond. Prior to the storm we were catching a variety of fishes. It may take a week or two for things to calm down. Current water temps are ranging from the high 60's to the low 70's.
INSHORE: Red drum, black drum and a few smaller flounder have been biting. Best baits have been live bait if you can find it, or fresh cut bait. For me the best tide has been the falling.
NEAR SHORE: Bluefish, small to large Spanish mackerel, and bonito have been biting trolling lures as well as casting and jigging spoons. Best areas have been the close in artificial reefs.
OFFSHORE: Some king mackerel and bonito action has been reported around 10 miles.
GULF STREAM: The main bite right now is wahoo with blackfin added to the mix.
UPCOMING: With Ana with us it is hard to say what will be around when she is gone. Hopefully a couple of tide changes will settle things back down and we can get on with our late spring fishing.
Until next time: Happy Mother's Day and LET'S GO FISHING…
