Wrightsville Beach to Cape Fear River

Wrightsville Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hot April Fishing

Fish On !!!!!!

Fishing has really picked up this week with virtually all areas of fishing showing great improvement and some fantastic catches. On Monday we caught 6 redfish and 4 black drum. Bluefish and more drum on Tuesday and the same today. Bonito are here, but at times they are real skittish.

Here's my report:

Inshore: Good catches of red and black drum in the creeks and waterway. Best bait is fresh shrimp on a carolina rig.

Nearshore: Plenty of bluefish and some bonito as well. One day they are here, the next they are not. I guess spotty is the word.

Offshore: Lots of king mackerel in the 25-30 mile range. Frying Pan Tower has been a hot spot.

Gulfstream: On fire. Wahoo, yellowfin tuna, billfish...it's all there and the bite is hot.

It appears that the season is about 2 weeks behind "normal" schedule. This is probably due to the cold winter and is subject to change almost overnight. Every year is different. Last year this time we could not keep the bonito off the hook and we could not find a red drum. This year the bonito are a little slow to show up but the reds are plentiful enough to make for a good fishing trip.

That's Fishing.
